New Music from The Barr Brothers

Posted on Sep 16, 2011

This week we have the self-titled debut from The Barr Brothers. We sent the single, “Beggar In The Morning,” a few weeks back which received attention from sites like Consequence of Sound & Nylon Mag. The Montreal band recorded the album in a boiler room at the foot of Mount Royal, an extinct volcano near their home. The album features various home made instruments such as the Waterphone (a bowed metallic instrument that mimics the sound of marine life), the Fretless Peanut Bowl Banjo, and the Electric Tool Box Guitar. The record has a more light and dreamy feel than other Indie Folk records due in part to, band member, Sarah Page’s harp arrangements. As Wild Honey Pie puts it, “The Barr Brothers self-titled album has cemented itself as one of the most diverse and well written this year.”
