New Music From David Gray
David Gray returns with his first full-length album in nearly 4 years, fostering a mature and expansive approach to his songwriting. Teaming up with Lamb producer Andy Barlow, Mutineers draws from the rich textures found in 1998’s highly successful White Ladder, while taking production and vocal performance to unprecedented levels. According to Gray, the collaboration with Barlow helped him step out of his comfort zone, ultimately producing the incredible sound that is Mutineers. “I had to surrender, relinquish control. But because I did, it’s made the music that much stronger,” says Gray.
On first listen, Mutineers is a collection of songs that proves to be a substantial shift from its predecessors. While the inevitable comparisons from past works will always be present, Gray has found a way to make an album that challenges his approach to making music, focusing on lyrics and meaning first, allowing the rest to simply fall into place.
