Marianne Faithfull Going for Adds

This fall, actress / singer Marianne Faithfull will release her 20th studio album entitled Give My Love to London. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the artist’s storied career. As an actress, she’s appeared in films by Jean-Luc Godard and acted alongside Orson Welles & Ana Karina. As a singer / songwriter, she’s inspired a legion of followers including David Bowie, Morrissey, Mick Jagger, Beck, PJ Harvey, and Damon Albarn. On her new album, the artist collaborates with a cast of luminaries, and together, they pen tales of Faithfull‘s storied past. Brian Eno, Leonard Cohen, Roger Waters, Steve Earle, Anna Calvi & more all contribute to the album’s vision, slated for release next month. The first single offers a peak into her past. With lyrics written by Nick Cave, Pitchfork called it Best New Track and said the following: “Marianne Faithfull sounds like a ghost recalling her life on ‘Late Victorian Holocaust’, drawing out her words slowly and carefully as though they’re all she has in this afterlife. She is resigned to an eternity ruminating on happier times, when she had blood and bone, and even the music sounds spectral and disorienting: those careful chords are the fading memory of a piano, the violin solo played through a medium. The centerpiece of her upcoming album Give My Love to London, ‘Late Victorian Holocaust’ is haunting in a nearly literal sense.”

RIYL: Tom Waits, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, Johnny Cash, Iggy Pop
