New Music from Earth Like Planets

Earth Like Planets is a solo act from Los Angeles that formed in 2012 by visual artist Brian Cooper. The emotional process that Cooper uses to make art is mimicked in the way he writes music. The ideas for each are conceived when Cooper is emotionally pulled by something: a lecture, an interview, a documentary. Their origin is a satisfaction of a natural desire to connect with the ethereal. Giving credence to his moniker, “Earth Like Planets is about getting people closer to something more in the world than what we perceive through all aspects of being and consciousness”.

Backed by sequenced drum machines and synths, Cooper creates a dark, entrancing sound on stage. Abstract lyrics and Indian raga like beats make for a hypnotic rhythm – captivating both the mind and body. His heavily reverbed guitars and rich vocals wash over a contemplative groove reminiscent of a wide range of groups like Clinic, Tobacco, The Flaming Lips, and “the Stan Ridgway era” of Wall of Voodoo.

Earth Like Planets has already received support by stations like KXLU, KALX, & KCHUNG, and performed across Southern California at places like Don Bolles’ (ex-The Germs) “Ye Olde Hush Club” along with playing the record release show for Innovative Leisure’s De Lux.

“His scientific/philosophical/speculative lyrics are intriguingly off beat and fascinating.”- Disaster Amnesiac
