Marianne Faithfull Going for Adds

Continuing her prolific musical career, Marianne Faithfull is releasing her 20th album titled Give My Love to London. With Faithfull as the backbone of the project, numerous talents contributed, including Nick Cave, Brian Eno, Leonard Cohen, Roger Waters, Anna Calvi, Steve Earle, Adrian Utley (Portishead), and more. The record was produced by Rob Ellis (Cold Specks, PJ Harvey) & Dimitri Tikovoi (The Horrors, John Cale) and mixed by Flood (Warpaint, New Order, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart).

The song “Late Victorian Holocaust” is cold and heavy, but not without soul; her voice retells of a sad dystopia and the lifestyle it produces. With songwriting help from Nick Cave, Faithfull musically recounts with passion. Read the Pitchfork “Best New Track” feature for the song here. The track “Falling Back” delivers with dramatic crescendos and lively instrumentals to support the determined vocals. With a Bowie-esque flare, the descending scales express the nostalgia of looking for a past lover.

While featuring a stellar supporting cast, it is Faithfull’s voice that proves the main attraction. Sung from the perspective of someone who has seen and done it all, from a highly publicized relationship with Mick Jagger to films with Orson Welles & Jean-Luc Godard. Five decades on, Marianne Faithfull remains a unique and compelling musical figure: adventurous in her life, adventurous in her art.
