New Music from Mount Eerie – Digital Servicing Only

From Mount Eerie (the project of Phil Elverum formerly of The Microphones) comes the latest album, Sauna, set for release in early February. Described as “the ultimate” Mount Eerie record, Sauna is a commanding tinkering of “vikings, zen, and real life”, and the songs narrow these ideas to tight moments. The album is a honed thesis. After 2012’s Clear Moon and Ocean Roar and 2013’s Pre-Human Ideas (auto-tuned versions of previous works), Sauna is deemed the most “hi-fi” record Mount Eerie has ever created. The album is grown up and intricate, yet still exists as a raw and natural plane.  Accompanied by harmonic foils, Ashley Eriksson (LAKEAllyson Foster (Hungry Cloud Darkening), & Geneviève Castrée (Woelv), Mount Eerie makes Sauna a piece of transition, aloneness, and hauntingly comfortable emptiness. Still, it is important to note that none of the songs are about sadness or isolation. As Elverum points out: “‘Emptiness’ is about the actual heart of things, lovingly. Solitude is for discovery.” NPR just premiered the album, naming it, “an arresting, frozen-moment splay of images and emotions.” Wandering into Mount Eerie‘s Sauna is like a journey into the foggy unknown; pensive, tattered, enlightened, and liberated.
