Stereogum Deems The Staves “Essential Listening” – Looking for Debuts

Stereogum reviewed The Staves‘ second full-length album, If I Was, and declared that the “entire record is essential listening.” The album was produced by Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and delivers a folky and soulful sound. The songs sing passionately of struggle but do not cease to give a sense of power derived from it. The review deems it “an album of wilderness songs, not fit for polite company and the logic of a steadily healing heart. It’s emotional dishevelment constructed in pristine harmony, a double take on what passes for strength.” The full review can be read here.

If I Was is going for spins and debuts on the CMJ Radio 200 chart.
