Consequence of Sound praises The Staves – Climbing at CMJ

UK sisters The Staves have had their lives flipped upside down since the release of their debut album in 2012. The critical acclaim they received swept them into multiple world tours, opening for Mumford & Sons, the Civil Wars, and Bon Iver. It was during the Bon Iver dates that group formed a bond with Justin Vernon, which then led to an invitation to his studio in rural Wisconsin for some time off. Upon arriving, the hardships they had experienced from incessantly touring and dissolved family and personal relationships poured into the demos that then informed their Nonesuch debut, If I Was. Naturally, Vernon produced the record and added his signature touch to each song. “Though these songs are stripped down and subtle, they achieve a heightened emotional state”.
