Alpine Going For Adds

Australian six-piece Alpine has released “Foolish”, the first single from the pop group’s wildly anticipated second album, Yuck, due June 16 from Votiv. The group’s last album earned much-deserved accolades from the likes of NPR, LA Weekly, and Pitchfork, which described Alpine as an “unforgettably light and charismatic gem”. According to guitarist and co-producer Christian O’Brien, the new album was inspired by the desire to go in new and often weird places, “to see if certain things would work in a ‘pop’ song.”

That impulse is apparent on “Foolish,” which includes atmospheric beats, surprisingly jangly acoustic guitar, and string swells to accompany lyrics that explore the band’s “yuck” reaction to plastic vanity, distasteful romance, & foolish attraction. The song’s video, starring co-singers Phoebe Baker and Lou James dancing with clones of themselves in an array of sun-soaked CGI-generated locales, debuted last month on NPR’s First Watch.
