New Music From Young Empires – Digital Servicing Only

Toronto-based indie pop outfit Young Empires is set to follow up their EP, Wake All My Youth, with a debut full-length album later this year. Between tours, Young Empires have been working relentlessly to refine their sound as a group, devoting all their energy to their much-anticipated debut album. To give us a taste of what’s to come, the band has released two singles from the upcoming LP. The first single, “So Cruel,” is a beautifully crafted electo-pop track, packed with feel-good dance hooks. “We want our music to be the thing that people connect to and feel good about,” says bassist Jake Palahnuk.

Yet beyond the blissfully lighthearted sound of Young Empires, the band’s singles breach a surface layer of connection and delve deeper with their lyricism, most obviously on their second single, “The Gates.” Despite the upbeat instrumentals, the underlying message of the song addresses both a pervasive sense of loneliness and an attempt to overcome this all-too-common feeling. “It suggests that by uniting with those around us (that may or not struggle with the same), we can overcome this feeling of isolation that is so commonplace in this world.”

Young Empires strikes a perfect balance between poignant lyricism and danceable pop instrumentals with their latest singles, leaving us eager to hear what else the threesome will deliver with their full-length release, out this fall.
