Alpine is Reviewed on Press Play, Premieres Song with Stereogum – Jumps to #56 at CMJ

Press Play loves Alpine’s new album Yuck, giving it four out of five stars for being “so damn pleasurable.” In the brief review, available here, the site praises the vocal interplay between co-singers Phoebe Baker and Lou James and declares that the band exists “on the more fun end of the indie-pop scale.” “Yuck,” says Press Play, is pretty easy, more than breezy, and a lot more palatable than its title would suggest.”

Before the album was released, Stereogum previewed it with a premiere of opening track “Come On.” The song is, according to the site, “an effective exercise in restraint… built around a thudding rhythmic heartbeat and dual frontwomen Phoebe Baker and Lou James’s beautifully harmonized vocals.” In its accompanying article, Stereogum also includes quotes from Baker and guitarist/producer Christian O’Brien to give insight on the song’s development and execution. Read it, and hear “Come On,” here.
