Rodrigo Amarante Premieres Self-Directed Video for “Mon Nom,” Tour Dates

Brazilian singer-songwriter Rodrigo Amarante just premiered the stunning, self-directed music video for “Mon Nom,” a standout track from his debut solo album, which was released last summer via Easy Sound. The song’s lyrics, written in French, explore the persistent feeling of being an outsider. The video adds a whole new layer to the experience depicted by Amarante‘s words, with one animated figure exchanging words with another, who replies in jumbled, yet still intelligible sentences. The words are taken from the lyrics, which are sung by Amarante as the animated figures wander around a vast, abstract landscape. “Less is more; be enchanted by a whisper rather than drawn in by a shout,” muses Amarante, who moved to Los Angeles six years ago from Rio de Janeiro, about the song. “This all comes from making a solo record for the first time. It’s about identity and the need for perspective and space.”

The simplistic yet beautiful video is the perfect visual component to Amarante‘s song. Read more about it here, and watch it below:
