Lianne La Havas Enjoys Strong CMJ Debut, Gets Great Reviews from WFUV and The Needle Drop

Lianne La HavasBlood had a fanastic debut on the CMJ Radio 200 this week, coming it at #37 as the top debut album of issue 1405! This already beats the peak for her previous album, The Mercury Prize-nominated Is Your Love Big Enough?, which made it to #46 during a 12-week run in 2012.

One station that’s been a huge supporter of the album is the iconic New York station WFUV, which charted Blood at #1 this week and featured La Havas’ as “FUV’s New Dig.” In the accompanying review, veteran DJ Darren DeVivo writes that “Blood is a sensual, late-night journey that draws from within, but confidently and joyously emerges outward in a splendid show of emotion… La Havas not only bridges the past and the present, but forges her artistic future.” Read the whole thing here.

The album also made the Needle Drop‘s “Loved List,” earning a rave review from self-proclaimed “Internet’s busiest music nerd,” Anthony Fantano. In his review, Fantano calls the record “a mature, lyrically sound followup [sic] to her breakout debut,” applauding her for developing her sound and giving fans his in-depth opinions of the entire tracklist.
