Lianne La Havas Earns Praise from CoS, Sings in the Shower for NYLON, Seeks New CMJ Peak

British neo-soul songstress Lianne La Havas is taking the world by storm with her new album Blood, the top debut on the CMJ Radio 200 last week. Consequence of Sound gave the record a strong review, noting the artist’s “penchant for adventure” and applauding her for taking musical risks and pushing the boundaries of her voice. “Her talent,” the review says, “doesn’t just lie in her ability to hit all the right notes with perfect timbre, but in the way she manages to play off her production and corner her own voice into moments of danger.” Read the review here.

Blood marks an artistic step forward for La Havas, who has expanded upon the traditional sound of her debut Is Your Love Big Enough? with modern electronics and sleek R&B production. But underneath the bubbling bass and dark synths, La Havas is at her core a virtuosic musician who can shine with nothing but a guitar in her hands. NYLON is currently highlighting that side of the artist with a video of her playing “Midnight” in the shower. Watch the video here, and “prepare for goosebumps.” Blood is at #37 at Radio 200 and looking to CMJ stations for a big jump this week.
