Kathryn Calder Announces Tour and Releases “New Millennium” Single – Digital Servicing Only

Kathryn Calder, who is currently winding down a summer tour as a member of the New Pornographers, has decided to drop a surprise gift upon fans of her solo music by releasing “New Millennium.” The track, left off her recent self-titled solo album because Calder felt like its hard-rocking and fuzzed-out nature didn’t fit within that album’s more contemplative context, is an energetic blast of power pop featuring Mark Kerrey on drums, Nicolas Bermudez on bass, Ryan Beattie (Frog Eyes) on lead guitar, and Brooke Gallupe on rhythm guitar. Stereogum, which premiered the track, wonders if its title refers to a “sea change in Calder’s writing style.” Check out the premiere here.

Calder also has a handful of tour dates starting next month in support of “New Millennium” and Kathryn Calder, her third solo album:

09/06 Hamilton, ON @ Gage Park Series
09/07 Waterloo, ON @ Jane Bond
09/08 Toronto, ON @ Adelaide Hall
09/09 Wakefield, QC @ Blacksheep Inn
09/10 Montreal, QC @ Quai Des Brumes
09/11 New York, NY @ Mercury Lounge
09/13 Washington, DC @ Gypsy Sally’s

“Kathryn Calder is quickly making her mark in power-pop… creating a self-described “synth-pop” experience woven together by her unique and charming vocals.”
-NPR

“Kathryn Calder is best heard in solo mode… she masters the art of hiding in plain sight, concealing a sweetly sad voice in soft clouds of pretty noise.”
-Spin
