Young Empires Have Top 100 Debut, Perform on KXRN and Q

Young Empires is making a big impression on the charts. The Toronto trio’s debut album, the Gates, was in the Top 5 at The Thing, KBVR, WMCZ, and WONY, at bowed at #68 in its first week on the CMJ Radio 200.

The group has been on tour – with dates still to come this week in Cincinnati and Chicago – and stopped by Laguna Beach’s KXRN for an on-air performance while in Southern California a couple of weeks ago. While the band is known for its huge arrangements, which feature powerful synths and stomping beats, this radio performance is notable for featuring a stripped down arrangement with acoustic piano, acoustic guitar, electric bass, and brushed drums. Check out the session, here, to hear “The Gates” and “Uncover Your Eyes” shine in a new format.

Fans who want to hear “The Gates” in its full, electrified glory should check out the band’s performance of the song on the CBC‘s flagship program, Q. The video of that performance can be seen below, but listeners should treat themselves to the full-length audio of their appearance on the show. Stream that, which also includes the band’s interviews with Q host Shad, here. Help Young Empires reach a new peak at CMJ!
