Young Empires Wow CMJ Audiences, Share Stories with Exclaim

Did you go to the 2015 CMJ Music Marathon? If so, hopefully you caught one of four performances from Toronto’s Young Empires. Music Times called them “One of the ten best bands we saw at CMJ,” and wrote, “the group performed cuts from their new album The Gates with powerful charisma… Despite a short half-hour, their brand of rock ‘n’ roll that mixed back and forth between high energy and soft ballads was constantly exciting.” Read the feature here.

The band recently provided a lengthy interview for a feature in Exclaim, Canada’s leading culture website. The band, already well-loved in their home country, told Exclaim how they’re aiming for global success with their new LP. Going in depth about the struggles of crossing over to the US from Canada, the band demonstrates the indomitable spirit that is causing them to slowly catch fire. According to singer Matt Vlahovich, “It is quite strange when you’re literally four hours from your hometown and no one knows who you are. But that’s part of the exercise, and all bands go through that… No show’s a bad show if you’re having fun.” For more insights, go here.
