Magnetic Mag and WNYC Feature St. Germain; New LP Lands at #32 at CMJ!

Magnetic Mag’s recent interview with St. Germain begins with a bit of history, reminding readers of the huge success that the electronic music pioneer had 15 years ago with Tourist. The piece then moves on to discuss Ludovic Navarre‘s long pause before the release of St. Germain’s new self-titled LP. According to Navarre, “I worked on [an album] that was very much in the same style as Tourist and I realized, despite the fact that I spent about a year working on it, it wasn’t something that I really liked… and so I put that aside” and became immersed in the world fusion styles that would eventually make their way onto the new album. Read the whole interview, which includes information on St. Germain’s new live incarnation, here.

St. Germain was also featured on WNYC’s Soundcheck, which features an embed of his new video “Sittin’ Here.” Noting that St. Germain was the last act to perform at Paris’ Bataclan Theater before the terrorist raid that occurred there last month, the feature points out that “most of the voices and instrumentation on this record are from [Mali]. At a time when France is likely to experience a surge of anti-immigrant sentiment, this [is a] reminder of the cultural richness of France’s sizable West African community.” Read it here.

St. Germain reached new peaks at Radio 200 (#32), New World (#3), and RPM (#9) last week. Help it continue its march up the charts.
