Junun Is the Biggest Mover at CMJ Radio 200, Breaks Into Top 50, Earns Praise from CoS and Tiny Mix Tapes

Junun, the excitingly original new collaborative LP from Shye Ben Tzur, Radiohead‘s Jonny Greenwood, and the Rajasthan Express, is making a big impact at CMJ. It was the top mover on the final Radio 200 chart of 2015, jumping from #162 to #49 in its second week, and it also hit #3 on the New World chart. We’re excited about the momentum, and we’re looking forward to seeing it start 2016 on a strong note.

Consequence of Sound is one of many publications that has praised the album, calling “an intricately designed mash of cultures… [that] breaks down the barriers of interpretation.” According to its review, which can be found here, “someone with an eager ear will find beauty in this blend of cultures and styles. It’s a celebration of musicians living, breathing, and learning from one another.”

Listeners who want insight into the creation of Junun should read Tiny Mix Tapes‘ review of the Junun film documentary that was directed by PT Anderson. The review opens with the album’s origin story, even though “Anderson… elects to leave all this in the background, unmentioned… What Anderson does, instead, is offer the viewer uninterrupted takes of the recording as well as meditative accounts of the physical artifacts of the album-making process.” Read the full review, which calls Junun “refreshing and to-the-point,” here.
