Fruit Bats, Currently #5 at CMJ, Host Huichica Festival

The 2016 edition of Sonoma, California’s Huichica Festival, an annual event founded in 2010 by Fruit BatsEric D. Johnson, takes place this weekend with a roster of acts including Dengue Fever, Giant Sand, Silver Apples, and A man A plan A canal pals Vetiver and Rodrigo Amarante — along with Fruit Bats, of course! According to a statement on the fest’s website from Johnson and co-creator Jeff Bundschu, “We built [the festival] on the concept that dynamic hand-curated music, wine and food are best shared in beautiful intimate settings with a warm and friendly attitude… [and 2016’s lineup presents] the most dynamic and extensive selection of music in the festival’s history.” SF Gate has a feature on the “low-key” fest, which can be read here.

Absolute Loser, Johnson’s first Fruit Bats LP since 2011, broke into the Top 5 at CMJ this week — and it shouldn’t stop there! Keep spinning the album, and get it on your charts if it isn’t already. And if you can’t make it to Huichica, maybe you’ll have a chance to check out Fruit Bats later this summer at The Newport Folk Festival in July or Seattle’s Pickathon in August.
