NYLON and Daily Beat Feature Coast Modern’s “Hollow Life”

NYLON is hosting a stream of Coast Modern‘s “Hollow Life,” a song about wallowing in frustration and waiting for inspiration before it finally hits. The stream is accompanied by a quote from the band explaining its origin: “There are days in L.A. where, as amazing as it is, it reaches a boiling point and you get the urge to throw some clothes in a bag and drive to the desert. This song tries to capture a little of that feeling.” Listen to “Hollow Life” below, read the rest of the feature here.

Daily Beat also has “Hollow Life,” along with a longer interview with Coast Modern. In it, the band explained a bit about its history and aesthetic: “We were working as songwriters for other artists for a couple years, which usually meant trying to sound like what’s currently popular on the radio. We started to realize that if you work that way you’ll always be playing catch up, instead of contributing something fresh… Now we don’t aim for any specific sound, we just turn off our brains and go with whatever pleases us at a gut level.” Read the whole thing here.
