The Bluegrass Situation Praises Chris Thile & Brad Mehldau

The Bluegrass Situation has selected the duo of Chris Thile & Brad Mehldau for an “Artist Of The Month” feature, drawing attention to their excellent self-titled debut LP. The feature starts by explaining how unique the mandolin and piano combination is; after all, “the repertoire for mandolin and piano isn’t exactly teeming with arrangements. Compared to other duets, those two specific instruments haven’t conversed with one another as often.” Yet Thile and Mehldau make their peculiar pairing work because of their tremendous musical and personal chemistry, a chemistry they explore in an interview with The Bluegrass Situation.

According to the website, “Chris Thile & Brad Mehldau is, at turns, compelling, curious, and playful. The two create soothing music together because they bring such care and consideration for one another to the recording process. Each track contains a deep breath, of sorts — one that comes from Mehldau’s jazz approach and Thile’s bluegrass-tinged response.” Read the whole feature here.
