Two new singles from rising dream-synth-pop Oslo-based duo Anna of the North, off their forthcoming debut album due this fall.
Anna of the North has found an international audience and viral success with an epic, swooning, and ethereal sound that, according to the FADER, “brings out Scandi-pop’s sensitive side.” The project got its start when singer Anna Lotterud, who grew up in a small town and was managing a clothing store in Oslo, began to feel unsettled in life and decided to travel alone to Melbourne, Australia. There, she met Brady Daniell-Smith (Little Dreamer), a fellow Norwegian and a producer, who recognized her talent and invited her into his circle of friends. Soon, a fruitful collaboration bloomed and Lotterud became Anna of the North. Since, the duo continues to thrive, reaching over 16 million streams on Spotify, topping Hype Machine and even being invited to feature on Tyler the Creator‘s newest track – “911 / Mr. Lonely” – alongside Frank Ocean and Steve Lacy.
Recently, Anna of the North shared two new singles to announce the release of their upcoming debut album – the softly stomping, 80s reminiscent “Someone” and the title track, “Lovers.” Anna describes the album as “deeply rooted in heartbreak, it’s a subject that courses through the veins of all ten tracks — through the turmoil, the guilty and the tentative joy of finally letting yourself move on.” The trancelike beats, wistful vocals, and emotive lyrics fuse to make “Lovers” a buoyant lamentation of fading love.
“Anna keeps twisting and warping the dreamlike blueprint of her Scandipop forebears to such gorgeous effect.” –NME
