Stereogum Premieres Holy Oak’s Isabelle

According to Stereogum, Holy Oak‘s song “Isabelle” is a “sweeping acoustic number… [The song is] striking and heartbreaking, and the depths of that statement lingers long after the song has finished.” The site premiered the song in advance of Second Son, the new Holy Oak LP that is currently spinning at radio. “I almost left this one off the album because it felt so sad and confrontationally personal. I sang the last verse ‘time has her thunder / but I have mine’ knowing it was only half true. At the end, Katherine [Anne Peacock, 1983-2016, who sang background vocals on the album and in whose memory it is dedicated] sang a Carter Family style three part harmony with herself which caused me to keep the song on the record.” Listen to the gorgeous results here.
