Exclaim! Recommends Kronos Quartet

Exclaim! recently reviewed Folk Songs, the new album from Kronos Quartet that includes guest vocals from Nonesuch labelmates Sam Amidon, Olivia Chaney, Rhiannon Giddens, and Natalie Merchant along with arrangement help from the venerable Nico Muhly. According to the review, “The Quartet’s versatility can be seen in the contrast between the first two songs [“Oh Where” and “Rambling Boys of Pleasure”]… Neither arrangement really overtakes the song or the vocal performance; these musicians play with expert sensitivity and patience.” The review takes special note of the album’s playfulness in its second half, singling out Giddens’ “Lullaby” as the record’s highlight.
