Doug Gillard‘s presence in the Ohio and New York music scenes is unreputable. After his involvement in Guided by Voices and Nada Surf (as well as an array of notable collaborations with the likes of Richard Buckner, My Dad is Dead, and Yuji Oniki), Gillard has now released his third official solo album, Parade On. Notwithstanding his undeniable influence in indie music over the past two decades, Parade On is surely one of Gillard‘s most impressive albums to date. Gillard recorded the new album in New York City and Austin, playing every instrument except drums. The personal touch Gillard gives to the record doesn’t go unnoticed, from the pop-driven rhythm of “Ready For Death” to the somber strummings of “Your Eyes.” Parade On shows Gillard flipping through his musical rolodex of influences and piecing together a snapshot of indie rock’s history.
