Philip Selway’s Familial Coming This Week

Posted on Aug 23, 2010

Familial was dubbed “remarkably assured” by the UK Times. Philip Selway has decided to step away from the drumkit in Radiohead, to release his debut solo record that is already getting rave reviews.

Nonesuch goes on to compare Selway’s work to that of Radiohead… “Curiously, traditional drumming is virtually absent from the record, which favors underlying textures and loops for percussion. At times Familial’s beats and instrumental colors are so subtle, it seems as if the acoustic air in the room is setting the mood, leaving space for the lyrics, which clearly come from the most intimate of places.”

If that doesn’t entice you enough, the album features colaborations with singer/songwriter Lisa Germano, formerSoul Coughing bassist Sebastian SteinbergWilco drummer Glenn Kotche and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Sansone.

It will arrive this week and it’s going for adds next week, August 30th and 31st.
