Jason Lytle on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert

On Monday NPR posted a new Tiny Desk Concert, featuring Jason Lytle performing a couple of songs from his recent solo album Dept. of Disappearance (plus one song from his days with Grandaddy). The session starts off with a stripped down rendition of “Willow Wand Willow Wand“, trading the layered synths and eerie production for an acoustic guitar and a drum beat. After that, Lytle explains that while he likes to make highly produced records, he has stopped caring about reproducing that same sound in a live setting. The next song he performs is “Get Up and Go“, which Lytle recognizes as the “happy and peppy” song from his new album and performs a not “happy, peppy version of it”. He ends his set with an acoustic (and solo) version of “Jed the Humanoid” from Grandaddy‘s The Sophtware Slump. Watch the Tiny Desk Concert here.
