The Jigsaw Seen – Going For Adds

Following the success and acclaim of albums Bananas Foster and Winterland, The Jigsaw Seen are back with their third record in three years. Gifted digs from the same goldmine as their last effort – both thematically and musically. The group pins jangle against psychedelia with streaks of 60’s pop. The band started recording a few of these tracks earlier this year for a proposed Winterland “Deluxe Edition” but decided to write and record more, instead releasing the ten new songs as a sequel to the winter-themed concept album. “Open Up The Box Pandora” starts things off with a sound reminiscent of Johnny Marr and the rhythm section of The Smiths. Jonathan Lea‘s tremolo-laden washy guitar is followed by Teddy Freese‘s thunderous drums and slightly distorted vocals from Dennis Davison. “Sell Me A Coat” (written by David Bowie) alternates between a ringing, fuzzy, New York proto-punk guitar riff and a jovial, bouncy chorus. Davison‘s vocals sit tucked away behind a haze that is made up of Tom Currier‘s walking bass and layers of Lea‘s electric and acoustic guitars. “The More You Change” places the shimmy of T. Rex at the ends with The Kinks brand of 60’s rock in the middle. “Pretend It’s Christmas” concludes the record and is influenced by Big Star‘s Third and Spector-esque production. The Jigsaw Seen take the sound they’ve crafted for the past 20 years and show how adaptable it is to the tone of the winter season.

“Open Up The Box Pandora” has received pre-release spins from Rodney Bingenheimer at KROQ, KXLU, KCSN, InterFM in Tokyo, Japan (with 35 million listeners) and is currently on the Top 40 Radio Doble Nueve in Lima, Peru.
