The Crackling Going for Adds

The Crackling may come off as a folk-rock band, but the members that back-up creative leader Kenton Loewen is what sets them apart from their peers. Associated acts include Mother Mother, Be Good Tanya’s, Dan Mangan Band and more. On their sophomore full length, Mary Magdalene, due next month, The Crackling bring their unmistakable darkened warmth and invitation to the sometimes bleak, challenging, yet hopeful subject matter found in their new album. The ten songs are lush with texture, deep with color, and free in its unbound expression.

This digital servicing is for two tracks from the forthcoming album. On “Keep Me Drunk”, The Vancouver Children’s Choir add a celestial tone to the song’s steady folk-rock. Vaudevillian keys and screeching guitar add a more menacing tone on “The Crackling”. Arrangements become sparse in between choruses, offering some light to the song’s dark colors.
