Music from the Microphones – Digital Servicing Only

In the year 2000 K released this oceanic record as The Microphones continued to spread out around the world. For their second album, It Was Hot, We Stayed In The Water, Phil Elverum & Co. take a different route, more an approach, making “a point to never letting on where it’s going next.” According to the 2000 Pitchfork album review of the record, which you can read here, The Microphones crush your “expectations of the traditional rock album,” all the while drawing you in by the stark uniqueness of the record. It Was Hot, We Stayed In the Water opens up with a lighter sound, and though it “never breaks out in complete anarchy,” the subtle changes that The Microphones present are nothing short of incredible. The “quality of songwriting demonstrated” in tandem with their ability to perfectly execute their ideas earned the album the description of “dynamic and complex, yet fragile and strangely beautiful.” The original hardcopy version of the LP was a now-vanished handmade pop-up jacket, impossible to repress. This is absolutely an album you cannot afford to miss! The record earned 4-star reviews from Consequence of Sound and AllMusic. Calvin Johnson, Mirah, and Khaela Maricich of The Blow return to assist, with additional accompaniment from Anna Oxygen & Karl Blau. This is the second of five The Microphones albums to re-issued by Elverum‘s P.W. Elverum & Sun label. Look out for the third installment tomorrow.
