Tuareg artist Bombino‘s newest album, Nomad, has been listed as one of the best albums of the year, and it’s only July! Produced by the Black Keys‘ Dan Auerbach, Nomad was named as one of Rolling Stone‘s “Best Albums of 2013” in their mid-year report here. It was also listed in “CMJ‘s Top 20 Albums of 2013 (So Far)”, which you can check out here.

The record is both ethereal and grounded, evoking a deep sense of introspection and blending narrative lyrics with one-take lead vocal performances, cinematic arrangements, rich soundscapes, and lush orchestration. Vollebekk – who self-produced and plays piano, guitar, bass, B3 organ, harmonica, accordion and Moog synthesizer – compiled an impressive supporting cast including drummer Jim Keltner, steel guitarist Cindy Cashdollar (Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Rod Stewart), and bassist Shahzad Ismaily. The album was mixed by Tchad Blake (Tom Waits, Arctic Monkeys, Tracy Chapman) and mastered by Greg Calbi.
