Cloudeater – Going for Adds

Purge, the new album from Cloudeater mixed by Prefuse 73, is going for adds this week. It is the group’s most impressive work as they continue to create music that pulls from the diverse cultural landscape of their Atlanta, GA hometown. With driving rhythms, fuzzy guitar, and atmospheric synths – Purge transcends a singular genre to create a sound reminiscent of several styles including trip-hop, post-rock, and prog rock.

The album opens with a cloudy soundscape, which sets the hazy atmosphere for title track “Purge” which frames the existential limits of the physical body through images of an apocalyptic event. From there, tracks such as “Hedron” and “Hollow” pull the album further into this dystopian landscape with complex rhythm and psychedelic synths similar to something off Flying LotusUntil the Quiet Comes. Tracks such as “Lethal“, “Detection“, and “Shelter” use complex rhythm, effected bass, distorted guitars, atmospheric synths, and soaring vocals to create a dark and eerie record.
