John Vanderslice – Slant Magazine Album Review

John Vanderslice self-released his ninth album, Dagger Beach, this summer and it has been regarded as some of his finest work. A review of the album by Slant Magazine praises his consistent ability to find a balance between “his knack for high minded compositions and his compelling, deeply personal songwriting.” Dagger Beach was written in the wake of the end of a long-term relationship, but it is not a conventional break up album in that it “uses a more literary style of protracted metaphor and detached narrators to explore complicated emotions”.
