New Album from Oh Land: Going for Alternative Specialty Spins
Danish singer, songwriter and producer, Oh Land, has released her new album, Wish Bone, via Dave Sitek‘s label, Federal Prism. Oh Land debuted in the US in 2011 with her self-titled album, and released her first album, Fauna, in Denmark three years earlier. Her self-titled album garnered overwhelming acclaim, with SPIN declaring it one of “20 best pop albums of 2011,” and Details praising it’s “fizzy, danceable electro-pop in the mode of Lykke Li and Florence and the Machine.” Her work was well received in the US, immediately leading her to play the late night talk show circuit and tour North America as a supporting act for both Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and Sia. Now this alterna-pop singer is back with her third studio release, which features her distinctive brand of left-field pop and collaborations with Dave Sitek and Sia, among others. One of the most notable tracks, “Renaissance Girls”, is an upbeat, bubbly electronica, dance-pop number celebrating female empowerment. Throughout the song, she mocks the outdated standards placed on women and takes full control of the track by being the only person, besides Sitek, to play on it. Oh Land sought to embody who she is with this record by recording vocals live throughout the album and leaving them unedited, allowing all the quirks and nuances to shine. Oh Land is currently on a North American tour, so be sure to check her out if she’s in your area.
