New Music from Kan Wakan

Dubbed by LA Weekly as the “…Los Angeles band about to blow up”, Kan Wakan is a striking breath of vision that places them as standouts amongst modern pops most inventive artists. The brainchild of Bulgarian-born multi-instrumentalist Gueorgui I. Linev, Kan Wakan was originally intended to be a small orchestral ensemble, but later evolved into a full band.

Their latest EP, Forever Found, was produced by Linev and multiple GRAMMY Award-winning producer/engineer Darrell Thorp (Radiohead, Beck, Gnarls Barkley). Recording sessions were adorned with sumptuous strings & cinematic sensibility. Vocalist Kristianne Bautista brings a powerful and provocative voice to the group, which harkens back to classic singers such as Anna Karina and Nina Simone. “Forever Found” was the band’s first fully fleshed out song and is the perfect example of Kan Wakan’s unification of song and symphony. On “Moving On”, Bautista’s voice gives a feeling of romantic nuance and human complexity, similar to, as Linev describes it, a lead instrument in an orchestra. “Midnight Moon” is a two part experiment in progressive sound, with “Midnight Moon Pt. 2” serving as an instrumental extension that allows you to get lost in your own head.

Kan Wakan crosses genres to create orchestral pop that is reshaped and rearranged to make something both startlingly original and utterly contemporary.
