New music from Careful

Eric Lindley is the mastermind behind Careful, the meticulously crafted and intimate solo project of the multi-instrumentalist, producer and artist. Lindley formed his warm, dark, and somewhat subdued sound out of a community of LA artists, electronic hackers and experimental artists. The World Doesn’t End is Careful’s fourth full-length album, which will be released on Circle Into Square on April 22, 2014.

Each song on the album tells a separate story revolving around the relationship between a man and woman filled with despair and hopelessness. Both the male and female voices are in fact Lindley’s, whose calm, yet fragile timbre is reminiscent of artists like Elliott Smith and Chet Baker. Tracks like “Didn’t He Die?” evoke sounds from Crystal Castles with noisy, custom synth sounds interlocked with layers of complex polyphonies and polyrhythms. Other tracks like “Unicorn” showcase Lindley’s playful storytelling and more classic songwriting structures.

“Gorgeous…From a tradition of unnervingly confidential, light-voiced male singers: João Gilberto, Arthur Russell, Lou Barlow of Sebadoh, Elliott Smith, Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu.”
