New music from CHAPPO

On sophomore album Future Former Self, NYC-based CHAPPO explores the abstract nature of time and the experience it has on the perception of reality. Drawing influence from intellectuals like Carl Sagan, Buckminster Fuller, and Oliver Sacks, the sci-fi inclined group cultivates a universe of music in which the concept of time is twisted hopelessly out of focus. CHAPPO seems to have recently traveled back from a distant black hole, bringing with them a kaleidoscope of new and mesmerizing sounds.

Splitting the difference between the guitar-driven psychedelia of Sixties West Coast rock and the spiritual witch doctor moonshine of Dr. John, the band has garnered an enthusiastic following through live shows incorporating collaborations with local artists. Future Former Self captures this spirit, sounding like a joyous party from the opening chords of album opener “Hello”. While conceptually heady, album highlights like “Mad Magic”, “Hey-Yo”, and “I’m Not Ready” are also insanely catchy products of smart pop songcraft that straddle genre and explode in unexpected places.

“Like MGMT coming down off a great acid trip”.
– Consequence of Sound

“Island sounds, arena rock loudness, funk, jam, garage and classic rock moments all take on an other worldly feel. Though it’s guitar driven, the band never stays with one formula too long, ensuring there’s something for everyone to love here. Confusing, sometimes. Enjoyable, the entire time”.
