Built to Spill is Interviewed and Reviewed by Texan Alt Weeklies – Going for New CMJ Peak

Built to Spill, currently in the midst of a summerlong North American tour, recently played three well-received shows in Texas. In advance of the Houston date, singer/guitarist Doug Martsch gave an interview with the Houston Press in which he discusses changes to the music industry over his 22+ year career and explains why he thinks that – unlike many of their indie rock peers – the band never broke up. Check it out here.

The Dallas Observer reviewed the band’s Dallas show here and was effusive in its praise. The show “display[ed] the band’s talent at bending and twisting songs out of standard arrangements,” wrote reviewer Kelly Dearmore, and “proved Built to Spill aren’t so much indie survivors as they are rock and roll thrivers.”

There are still plenty of opportunities to see Built to Spill live this summer, including several dates with Death Cab for Cutie. Untethered Moon is at #8 at CMJ. Give the band some extra support as they make a run for the top 5 on the Radio 200 chart:
