New Music from Aqueduct

After an eight-year wait, Seattle-based indie pop outfit Aqueduct is set to release his next full-length album, Wild Knights. Aqueduct earned widespread critical appreciation with 2007’s Or Give Me Death, performing on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and sharing the stage with the likes of The Flaming Lips, Apples In Stereo, and Modest Mouse. Since then, frontman David Terry has been crafting what would become Wild Knights, and the first single from the album is finally here.

“Simpleanimal,” the album’s lead single, premiered on Pop Matters with a quote from Terry on the making of the song – “I sang this song to myself for a year before I sat down to write out the chords. It seemed so simple, maybe too simple, causing me to retreat back to the confines of my mind to finish the structure and form of the song.” However, as soon as it was shared with bandmate Matthew Nader, it was clear that the song’s simplicity is what makes it so infectious. “Simpleanimal” took on a shape of its own, and with lush synth bass and Galaga-esque keyboard lines added, the track was finished within an afternoon.

With its joyus, uncomplicated, and undeniably catchy chorus, “Simpleanimal” is the perfect summer single.
