Aqueduct Goes for Adds with “Simpleanimal”
Seattle-based indie pop outfit Aqueduct is set to release Wild Knights, their first release since 2007’s Or Give Me Death. The record was critically acclaimed, leading to performances on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and with the likes of The Flaming Lips, Apples In Stereo, and Modest Mouse. Since then, frontman David Terry has been crafting what would become Wild Knights, and the first single from the album is finally here.
“Simpleanimal” premiered on Pop Matters along with some insight from Terry on the making of the song. “I sang this song to myself for a year before I sat down to write out the chords,” he explains. “It seemed… maybe too simple.” When bandmate Matthew Nader heard it, though, he realized the song’s simplicity is what makes it infectious. “Simpleanimal” soon took on a shape of its own, with lush synth bass and Galaga-esque keyboard lines, and the pair finished the track within an afternoon.
“Direct yet subtly complex” -Pop Matters
“Combining Modest Mouse with Electric Light Orchestra is no mean feat, but Aqueduct manages it with ease.” – Filter Magazine
