New Music from Lianne La Havas

English singer-songwriter Lianne La Havas is set to release her much-anticipated sophomore album, Blood, later this month. The upcoming LP is the follow-up to her debut, Is Your Love Big Enough?, which was named Album of the Year at iTunes UK and was met with tremendous critical acclaim in the US. Following the success of her first record, La Havas delved into a period of self-discovery, exploring her ancestral and musical roots on a trip to Jamaica with her relatives. Inspired by Jamaican grooves and rhythms, much of Blood centers on the songstress’ sense of identity. With help from legendary reggae producer Stephen McGregor and producer Paul Epworth Adele, FKA Twigs), Blood captures La Havas’ signature soothing, airy, and bold sound with an unprecedented depth.

The lead single from her sophomore release, “What You Don’t Do,” perfectly encapsulates the songstress’ refined vocal work and lyrical artistry. As though creating negative space with her words, La Havasnavigates the jaded, tired language we use to show love, before finally saying of her own relationship, “It’s what you don’t do, the games you don’t play; I know you love me, I don’t need proof.” It’s an enticing love song with an unexpected approach, and La Havas‘ mesmerizing and massive voice always leaves us wanting more.

“A new and electrifying voice.”

“An acoustic folk-rock-soul sound that is unique, and what’s best is that heavy voice of hers: This London singer sounds like she’s singing straight to your soul.”
