Zella Day Talks to AXS, Gets Praised by Cultured Vultures

Zella Day‘s Kicker has been earning effusive praise from reviewers, including Cultured Vultures. That site just gave the LP a 10/10 review, saying the album provides “a gateway into her life through her lyrics… Each song unravels itself, although some of her lyrics require more thought than a single listen through will allow.” Reviewer Aleena Arfan is smitten with Day‘s words, calling the Arizonan indie pop singer-songwriter “a lyrical genius.” Check out the review, and watch the video for “Jameson,” here.

Arfan‘s review also notes the musical eclecticism present on Kicker, and Day explained in a recent interview with AXS that she aims for sonic diversity. “There are a lot of sounds that I love and aesthetics that I love, and I feel like I have found a way to pull them all together without putting myself in a box,” Day told Allen Foster. “I think that being a dynamic artist is important because there is something on the record for everybody. Everybody has a different favorite, which I think is a really good thing.” Go here to read the whole interview and learn more about Day, the making of her “Jameson” video, and why she’s tired of being compared to Lana Del Rey.
