Futurebirds, an Athens, GA-based psychedelic country rock band that has built a devoted audience at colleges across the Southeastern US, is preparing their album Hotel Parties for release on September 25. Stereogum has the lead single, the rolling and riveting “twentyseven.” The twangy track glides, featuring beautifully-played pedal steel and a chill hook that belies its heavy subject matter. According to Stereogum, it’s “perfect for a drive through rural nowhere with your arm swaying out the window.” Hear the song here.
Last month, the band played the Bragg Jam festival in the nearby town of Macon and gave an advance interview to local music blog Field Note Stenographers. Guitarist Thomas Johnson tells the site about how the band has grown since its formation in 2008, and what we can expect from the new album. Check it out here.
