Gary Clark Jr. Streams on NPR First Listen, Performs on the Tonight Show, Goes for Adds 9/15

Gary Clark Jr.‘s “The Healing” single has been making an impact on college radio, spending the past two weeks on the CMJ Radio 200 even though it’s only a teaser for his full release, The Story Of Sonny Boy Slim, going for Adds on 9/15. Now fans can hear the rest of the LP, thanks to it being featured by NPR‘s First Listen. In the accompanying article, writer Jewly Hight explains why the guitar virtuoso isn’t satisfied to follow the expectations of blues purists and instead creates challenging, genre-crossing music. The album is only streaming for a few more days, so go here to preview the full thing before it lands on your desk later this week.

The Grammy-winning musician showed up on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon show last Monday to perform a searing, guitar solo-rich rendition of “The Healing.” Check out Fallon’s page about Clark here, which not only features the performance but a web-exclusive feature in which Clark discusses some early albums that influenced him.
