New Music from Jonny Greenwood, Shye Ben Tzur, and the Rajasthan Express
Jonny Greenwood has recently teamed up with Israeli composer Shye Ben Tzur, the Rajasthan Express (a group of Indian qawwali musicians), and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. Together, through Nonesuch records, they created Junun, an album that combines Sufi qawwal and Hebrew musical traditions. Greenwood’s long time friend, Paul Thomas Anderson, with whom he’s collaborated on such films as Inherent Vice and There Will Be Blood, joined the musicians in Jodhpur, India to document the recording sessions. Anderson’s documentary, also titled Junun, has played at the New York Film Festival and Rome Film Festival. The album comes out November 13th, but we’re excited to be sending you the track “Roked” now. Watch the album trailer below to give yourself an idea of what this unique project is all about.
