New Music from the Pines – Digital Servicing Only

The Pines have shared the stage with everyone from the Arcade Fire and Bon Iver to Mavis Staples and the Holmes Brothers. Their 2012 LP Dark So Gold was named #3 best album of the decade by the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and Vintage Guitar called it “a soundtrack of American Gothic intensity…a stunner of an album.” Though the songs on their follow-up Above the Prairie were captured in just a few takes, the album represents the band’s most ambitious work to date. On the forthcoming LP, the Pines sound like a Great Plains version of Brian Eno, exploring the vast expanses around and above them, they find beauty in isolated towns and farms that dot the landscape, and the array of stars that dot the night sky.

Band members David Huckfelt, Benson Ramsey, and Alex Ramsey meld a lush, layered sound with vivid, imagistic lyrics that are apparent in abundance on the album’s advance single, “Aerial Ocean.” A powerful and rolling piece of Americana featuring the beautifully intermingling voices of Benson Ramsey and David Huckfelt, “Aerial Ocean” is a substantial, pensive piece that should leave fans excited for the February release of the new LP.

“Just when we think we know what we’ve come to expect from the Pines… or consider brushing them off as another in a long string of Americana bands, they put out a new song that hits so close to the gut that it reminds us that they are truly a singular band.”
The Current, KCMP

“A hushed mix of acoustic and electric guitars and keyboards creates a kind of haunted landscape and an affecting portrait capturing an American journey.”
