The Cave Singers Go For Adds with “That’s Why” Single

“If the city of Seattle created a position for a house band,” wrote KEXP during last year’s Bumbershoot Festival, “The Cave Singers would immediately top the shortlist.” The trio of Peter Quirk, Derek Fudesco, and Marty Lund – whose members were integral to the bands Murder City Devils and Pretty Girls Make Graves – have risen to the forefront of the Rainy City with an Americana-tinged version of garage rock that, according to Pitchfork, adds “a welcome dark side” to Seattle’s folky scene. After stints with both Matador and Jagjaguwar, the band decided to harness the goodwill of its fanbase to crowdfund and self-release its new, fifth album, recorded live over a furious six days with producer Randall Dunn (Akron/Family, Jesse Sykes).

Lead single “That’s Why,” which has already charted on Seattle’s tastemaking station KEXP, serves as a quick and appealing introduction to the album’s 10 tracks. “Unadorned except for a slight thread of guitar fuzz and a lone harmonica,” Stereogum wrote about the track for its November debut, “the song trots along with a straightforward, snarly classic rock feel.”
