The Oklahoman Praises The Flaming Lips
Oklahomans have loved The Flaming Lips for more than three decades now, a fruitful creative stretch of time during which the band has become the best-known rock act from a state known more for churning out country stars like Garth Brooks and Reba McIntyre. Since Oklahomans know the band best, it’s important to know how they feel about the band’s new album Oczy Mlody. Thus, it’s great that The Oklahoman newspaper has blessed the album with a strong review that celebrates the LP as the “most melodic, song-based, listener-friendly album of original music” since the band’s seminal Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots. “The rich symphonic tapestry of synthesizers and piano lends majestic sparkle” to the album, which is anchored by Coyne’s whimsical voice and lyrical weirdness. The review intersperses interview snippets from Coyne, who told the paper about the band’s motivations and the meaning behind the album’s title. Read The Oklahoman article here.
