The Mancunion Reviews Mount Eerie, New LP is Top Debut at NACC (#28)

A Crow Looked At Me is a “tough listen,” admits the Mancunion‘s review of the new Mount Eerie album. Written and recorded in the immediate aftermath of his wife’s death, Phil Elverum‘s new LP is “a hard listen because it is just so sad.” Despite this, or perhaps because of it, reviewer Joe Casson concludes that the album “is one of the best creative works Elverum has put out to date” and that it has “has lingered on my mind more than any recent album I can recall.” Yet, no review can do this record justice. As Casson writes, “This is one of the most powerful pieces of art that Elverum has created, and will rightly linger in the minds of everyone who listens to it, but to score this album out of ten will always feel more than a little graceless. To understand this album you need to hear it: for yourself, for Phil Elverum, and for [his wife] Geneviève.” Read the review here.

We agree. A Crow Looked At Me is emotionally charged and often painful, but it’s a beautiful and rewarding album that will grab at the soul of anyone who pays attention. Thanks to those that helped the record reach #28, making it the top debut at NACC. It’s an absolute privilege to be able to promote such a singular work, and we encourage everyone to spend some time with it.
